10 Years of IPSF Ultra Pole – A Decade of Innovation, Freedom and Pushing Boundaries

20/08/2026

In 2016, something new was born in the world of pole sport. The International Pole and Aerial Sports Federation (IPSF) introduced Ultra Pole, a unique competition format that brought an entirely new approach to the sport.

In 2026, we celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Ultra Pole became much more than just another competition discipline. It created a space where acrobatics, creativity, spontaneity and individual style could come together.

How Did It Begin?

According to the IPSF's official history, Ultra Pole was introduced in 2016. The same year saw the first Ultra Pole World Championships held as part of the World Pole Sports Championships.

From the very beginning, Ultra Pole offered something different from traditional pole sport competitions. Rather than focusing solely on a carefully prepared routine, it created an environment where athletes could showcase their creativity, athleticism and ability to react in the moment.

The IPSF describes Ultra Pole as a discipline centred around innovation, creativity, self-expression and exceptional athletic ability.

What Makes Ultra Pole Special?

Ultra Pole is essentially a trick battle.

Athletes compete in battle-style rounds, where the focus is not on performing one long, predetermined choreography. Instead, they have the opportunity to respond, adapt and surprise.

Here, the moment matters.

So does the idea.

So does the ability to take a risk.

Athletes can showcase their own movement vocabulary, powerful tricks and unique acrobatic abilities. One of the most exciting aspects of Ultra Pole is the freedom it gives athletes to explore new possibilities and push the boundaries of what is considered possible.

The energy of the audience also plays an important role, creating an atmosphere that is very different from a traditional judged routine.

10 Years of Evolution

Over the past decade, Ultra Pole has grown into an established discipline within the IPSF competition system and has reached athletes and competitions around the world.

The discipline continues to evolve alongside the athletes who perform it. New tricks emerge, new combinations are created and competitors continue to challenge the limits of strength, flexibility, control and creativity.

The official IPSF results also show how Ultra Pole has continued to develop at both international and national levels.

And with every new generation of athletes, the question remains:

What will we see next?

Ultra Pole Is About More Than Tricks

Of course, one of the most spectacular aspects of Ultra Pole is the incredible level of tricks and acrobatics.

But Ultra Pole is about much more than that.

It is about courage.

The courage to attempt something others may never have imagined.

It is about creativity.

The same pole can become an entirely different playground in the hands of every athlete.

And it is about freedom — the freedom to express personality, individuality and a personal interpretation of pole sport.

Perhaps that is exactly why Ultra Pole has become such a special part of the evolution of pole sports.

2016 → 2026

Ten years can change a sport dramatically.

Athletes have become stronger, faster and more technically advanced. New tricks have been created, new styles have emerged, and the boundaries of what was once considered possible have continued to move.

And that is exactly what Ultra Pole is about.

What haven't we seen yet?

What else is possible?

Where is the next boundary?

These questions are what make every Ultra Pole battle unpredictable, exciting and unique.

A Decade to Celebrate

In 2026, as Ultra Pole celebrates its 10th anniversary, it is worth taking a moment to look back at the journey this discipline has made.

From its debut in 2016 to its place today as an international competition discipline, Ultra Pole has created a unique platform where athletic performance meets individuality, creativity and innovation.

Happy 10th Birthday, Ultra Pole!

Ten years of courage.

Ten years of creativity.

Ten years of new tricks.

Ten years of pushing boundaries.

And hopefully, many more years filled with movements that we cannot even imagine are possible today.
